Effective Goal Planning (and Free Printable)

When I saw Jenn’s advert on Facebook for contributors to the Planner Squad blog I knew instantly it was something that I wanted to be involved with. If you are a member of the Planner Squad Facebook group you may have seen me floating about. For those of you who don’t know me I am Tina, the owner and designer of Little Chiqui Paperie – an online stationery boutique specialising in planner inserts.

Effective Goal Planning

Since we are well into the second quarter of 2016 I thought it would the perfect opportunity to talk about effective goal planning. One of the things us Planner Girl’s have in common is our obsession with goal setting.

It is part and parcel of planning. December rolls around, we prepare our planners for the new year ahead obsessing over the perfect set up and we set our goals. The old year ends, the new year starts and we are on a high and excited about all the new things to come our way.

Our goals are fresh, we are motivated and we work hard but then without even realising we start to lose motivation and lack drive, we forget our goals and why we set them.

I don’t know about you but accomplishing my goals makes me feel good about myself. Its makes me feel accomplished. I have always been a goal setter (or dreamer as some people call me) and I really believe that we need goals in our life.

Goals are really hard to accomplish if they are not set in the correct way and without even knowing so, we are usually setting ourselves up to fail.

S.M.A.R.T Goals

For those of you who have never heard of the S.M.A.R.T principle it stands for Specific, Meaningful and measurable, Achievable, Realistic and relevant and Timely. When goals are set using this principle they are more likely to be accomplished.

I always use this principle when setting my own goals. I know that when using this formula that this goal is achievable. When goals are set without using this simple format they are much harder to achieve.

Once you learn how to set goal effectively using S.M.A.R.T you will be setting yourself up for success in accomplishing all your goals assuming you are prepared to put in the hard work to execute your action plan.

FREE Goal Assessment and Planning Booklet Printable

Today I wanted to share with you a free Goal Assessment and Planning Booklet download that I have designed exclusively for the Planner Squad. It’s purpose is to help guide through effective goal planning using the SMART principle and help encourage you to review your goals regularly.

The booklet is designed in A5 format and will fit perfectly into an A5 planner. If you don’t own an A5 planner you can print his booklet style and make yourself a goal setting booklet.

A little bit about the workbook – It is 12 pages long and designed to be printed duplex. It can also be printed booklet style. Pages 6 & 7, 8 & 9, 10 & 11 have been designed to be printed as many times as you need them. The file is in PDF format and can be opened and printed using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.

Setting goals shouldn’t feel daunting. It should feel exciting and when accomplished it should feel rewarding. I hope you enjoy working through the booklet and I hope it helps you with setting  and accomplishing your goals.

What kind of goals would you like to achieve in your life? We’d love to hear them! Comment below if you’d like to share them with us!

Planner Squad Swap – Sign Up for May 2016

Do you like to get planner related goodies in your mail box? If so, the Planner Squad Swap is for you! Each month our Squadettes like to participate in a monthly swap that brings the happiness of planner related goodies straight to your mailbox! Want to know how you can participate in the next swap? Keep reading for more information!

planner squad swap may pinterest copy

How does the Planner Squad Swap work?

Basically, you fill out the form at the bottom of this page to send an email to our Swap leader (the infamous Sarita!) and she will pair you with your swap buddy. Then you and your swap buddy will each shop for and/or create planner related goodies to be packaged up and shipped to your partner! Swap partners are paired together – so whoever you are sending to, will be sending something to you in return.

Who can participate in the swaps?

Our swaps are only open to our awesome Squadettes! Want to be a Squadette too? Come join us in our awesome facebook group! [Yes – we will check if you are a member or not! If you’re not, then your email will go to the virtual trash can and you will not be allowed to participate. So make sure you join our fb group!]

What is the monthly limit we should spend on our swap partner?

The limit is $15 max. That may or may not including shipping, that is up to you. You are more than welcome to spend more on your swap partner if you would like, however that does not guarantee you will get the same amount in return. You must spend a MINIMUM of $15 on your swap partner (again, that can include shipping if you would like).

When is the deadline to sign up?

The swap signup deadline for the May 2016 swap is April 30th.

Okay, I signed up! When will I be assigned a swap partner?

Emails are generally sent out with your swap partners information around the 1st of every month. Check the facebook group for updates from Sarita. If you did not get an email, check your spam folder. If you still can’t find your email, contact Sarita to let her know.

Is there a shipping deadline?

Yes. All swap packages MUST be shipped by May 15th. That gives everyone about two weeks to shop for their partner and put together a package, which is plenty of time. If for some reason you cannot get to the post office in time to ship your partners package, you MUST let Sarita and your swap partner know.

Other things you should know as a Swap Participant

If you flake out on your partner and do not send a swap gift – you will be forever banned from the Planner Squad facebook group and no longer be allowed to participate in future swaps. Also, since partners are paired in groups of two – your swapper will know who their flaky swap partner was, which could ultimately end up in a bad reputation for yourself.

If you sign up – follow through. Zero tolerance for flaky swappers!

Also, do not wait to receive a package before sending yours. That’s not how it works! If everyone waited to receive a package before sending one in return – no one would ever get any packages! If you sign up – follow through!

**Disclaimer: Planner Squad and Facebook is not responsible for any wrong doings that may happen during a swap. When you sign up – keep in mind that you are taking a risk. We have no way to force anyone to send packages. That means, if someone doesn’t follow through on their end of the deal – you may not end up with a package that month. While that really stinks and we try to avoid that as much as possible, we’re ultimately not responsible if you do not get a gift in return. By signing up you are telling us that you understand there is a possibility that you may not receive anything in return. If you do not receive a package by the end of the month – contact Sarita immediately to report it.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the swap! This month’s sign ups are closed! Make sure you subscribe to our email list to be notified of next month’s swap!

Happy Swapping!

Planner Sticker Cutting Hack – Gyro Cut Review

We don’t know about you but we do not like cutting out planner stickers.  We equate cutting out free planner stickers that we print out to getting a tooth pulled or water torture.  It takes us forever to cut the stickers out and then we spend three times as long peeling the sticker off.  (Are we the only planner girls with this struggle?)

Don’t get us wrong- We LOVE free printable planner stickers!  The gracious ladies who design such gorgeous planners stickers and offer them for free from their sites are like angels.  We have to watch our planning budgets and these ladies save us so much money!

gyro cut review

We just do not like the time that goes into cutting and peeling off printable stickers!  Sure, we could invest in a Cricut, Silhouette, or the like but unfortunately we don’t have the money to spend on that kind of thing right now.  (But, hey, if you have an extra laying around, we wouldn’t turn it down!)

We found ourselves not printing out as many adorable free printable stickers because we just don’t have the time to deal.  Then, we were introduced to the Gyro Cut.

*Disclaimer – We received this product free in exchange for our honest review. The opinions of Amy and Jenn are 100% authentic, as we do not believe in promoting a product we do not believe in. planner squad gyro cut tool blades

Ladies, our planning world has been rocked once more!

Gyro Cut is an amazing craft tool that cuts thin materials like paper, vinyl, tissue paper, and foil.  It is hand-help with a 360° rotating blade. Our klutzy selves appreciate the fact that it will not cut human skin with normal use.

After some practice with Gyro Cut, we have come to love our free printable planner stickers once more!

Why We Love Gyro Cut As An Affordable Planner Sticker Cutting Tool

The #1 reason that Gyro Cut rocks is that it has tremendously decreased our time for cutting out stickers.  We heart our Happy Planners and adore them even more with planner stickers like boxes and sweet extras.  We do find, however, that it takes longer to decorate and that is not good for these busy homeschooling and blogging mamas.

Gyro Cut was a bit tricky to master-at first and has a bit of a learning curve. It takes some time to adjust to the feel of using it. Using too much pressure will cut all the way through the paper, but not enough pressure means you will hardly cut through at all.

It also seems to work easier if you have a more steady hand. At first, we weren’t really sure how we felt about it, but with some practice, we both finally got the hang of it! And, boy, Gyro Cut is fun to use!

The best part of the Gyro Cut is that its much easier on your bank account with its very affordable price.

Tips for Using the Gyro Cut

  • Use a cutting mat or the like (Amy uses a cork board square she had in her craft stash)
  • Leave part of the white edge around your stickers for a cleaner look
  • Practice on older stickers or regular paper to get the hang of it before using on your good stuff

Would we recommend the Gyro Cut to our readers? Absolutely! It’s such an affordable alternative to sticker cutting, and takes much less storage space.

Do you have this awesome tool? If so comment below and let us know what you think of it. If you have a planner or paper crafting friend who might be interested in learning more about Gyro Cut, share this post with them!

Happy Planner Printing Hack Tutorial

Step 1: Download Software, Templates, and Design

In order to get started, you will first need to download the FREE Silhouette Studio Basic Edition software. No, you do not have to have a Silhouette to do this tutorial – but you do need the software (or Photoshop).

You will also need to download these free Happy Planner page templates (courtesy of Jing) as well. You can find the free downloads here at our free printables page.

(For this tutorial you can either create your own decorative boxes and elements on your own, or I’ve created some you can use to practice with. These will be included in the download with the templates.)

Here is an example of Planner Squad's Happy Planner Printing Hack Tutorial.

Step 2: Open Templates into the Silhouette Software

Find where you downloaded your template files and open them in the Silhouette Studio software. To do this click on “File>Open>Select File>OK”. Print this Template from the Silhouette Studio Software prior to decorating on regular computer paper.

(Tip: Make sure your image is not resized to fit the page. It should be printed at its actual, 100% size, which is 8.5×11)

Step 3: Import Decorative Files to Library

Import all of your decorative elements to the Silhouette Studio Library. To do this click on “File>Import>Import to Library>Find File to Import>OK”.

Step 4: Open the “Library” in Silhouette

Click on “File>Library>Library” to open.

This Happy Planner Printing Hack Tutorial can save you money & time!

Step 5: Insert Decorative Elements to the Template

Find the decorative elements you wish to add to the template and double click on it. It will then be inserted to the file on top of your template. Click and drag to move the element where you would like it to print on the page. Do this for all of the elements until you have placed them all where you want them.

(Tip: Make sure the template is not selected with a border around it while adding your design. It will cause the design to not add correctly. Click somewhere in the grey area to deselect the template.)

Step 6: Add a Page From Your Happy Planner to the Printed Template

Use your printed blank template and add a page from your happy planner so that it fits in the box.

(Tip: To make sure all of the lines add up perfectly, hold the page up to a light so you can see where the lines are. Some printers print differently so doing this will make sure you’ve lined everything up properly. If your printed template is not the right size, you will need to reprint and check your printer settings to make sure it wasn’t resized wrong.)

Once you have lined up the pages correctly, use washi tape to keep the paper in place during the printing process.

(Tip: I tape along the top and bottom instead of the sides like in the photo to keep from ripping the punched side of the paper).

Use washi tape to help your paper in place with this Happy Planner Printing Hack.

Step 7: Remove the Template

Click on the white page of the template to select only the template. Then press “delete”. Your design elements should be in place still, but the template boxes should disappear.

Step 8. Print!

Put the template with the Happy Planner page taped to it, into your printer. Press File>Print, and print your design. Your design will print directly onto your happy planner page!

Voila!

There you have it! A decorated Happy Planner Weekly Spread and it didn’t use a single sheet of sticker paper! Of course now you can add more fun elements to it to spice it up if you’d like, but this Happy Planner printing hack makes the process much easier and saves so much sticker paper!
