Join Planner Squad at the 2016 Midwest Planner Con!

I have a HUGE announcement! I’m so excited, and oh-so-nervous at the same time. This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, and I’m not sure if the fact that I can’t sit still is because I’m scared to death, or so stoked that I can’t wait for it to get here!

I can hear you now.. “Okay Jenn, get on with it already!” Okay, so here it goes! What is my big announcement? Well…

midwest planner con 16

I am officially going to be a speaker at the 2016 Midwest Planner Con!

Yep! That’s right! If you are going to this event you will be able to throw popcorn at me as I talk about myself.. Ha!! No but seriously, I am so super excited about this opportunity!

I’ve never been to a planner convention before,so this will be my first one! Of course in my own true fashion I jumped in head first and went straight to speaker! I know, I might be crazy.

I’m not one that likes to get up in front of big crowds, so don’t judge me if I start nervously rambling or talk super fast and my entire talk is over in 15 minutes (ha!! just kidding!)

Midwest Planner Con 2016

What is Midwest Planner Con 2016? Well, its a day full of meeting other planner girls, learning and being inspired from different speakers, and a whole lot of SWAG! (Can you say FREE planner goodies?!) There’s also going to be vendors, shopping, giveaways, and lunch! So basically, the perfect day! What planner girl wouldn’t want to get in on this deal?!

There will be other amazing speakers there as well with plenty of valuable information to share! It’s going to be a day full of inspiration, building new friendships, creativity, and FUN! Oh yeah, did I mention FREE SWAG?!  (I’m just a little to excited about this stuff!)

How Planning Saved My Life

Let’s start by going back about three years: I was (and still am) a wife and mother who was working full-time in a demanding environment. I was contributing to education classes at work as well as being heavily involved in community outreach, which meant I was traveling and working extra hours.

My daughter would come home from school with birthday party invitations and letters about upcoming events, she had extra-curricular activities, and we all had doctor’s appointments and counseling that required time off work or away from school.

Losing Control

Despite using Outlook and iCal at work, I would forget about my classes and rush to be there at the last minute, unprepared for the presentation I was about to give. I would forget about doctor’s appointments and school functions, and would ask for the time off work at the last minute.

Eventually, I sensed that my boss was irritated with how scattered I was. I then started feeling stress and guilt about the situation, which didn’t help with my general anxiety over my busy life.

When my daughter would bring home information about parties or events, I would immediately feel stressed and inconvenienced about the time and the contribution it would require. I would also forget about those parties/events as quickly as I set down the paper or invitation telling me about them. When the time came for those events, I was filled with guilt because I could not bring myself to attend and my daughter was disappointed.

I was flaking out on my friends and rarely doing anything for me. I had a million things jumbled in my brain and trying to sort everything out seemed insurmountable and added to my level of stress.

In a nutshell, I was feeling anxious, stressed, and guilty. I felt like my life was out of control.

how planning saved my life

Small Steps, Big Changes

After identifying that I was tired of living my life the way that I was, I decided to take matters into my own hands; I thought the best way to do that would be to commit to a planner. Immediately, just the simple act of writing down all of the things that were in my brain was a relief. Those stresses were now out of my mind and could be accessed one at a time, at the appropriate time. When I would look at my month and everything I had going on, I could prioritize and prepare accordingly.

Fast forwarding to present day, I am still using a planner full-time and it has enabled me to have a less hectic life. Yes, I am still busy, but I am prepared and there are fewer surprises to send me into a downward spiral of stress and anxiety. Yes, using a planner requires dedication, but the benefits of my efforts are vast.

Sitting down with my planner every morning and mapping out my day has become a therapeutic activity that I look forward to. Plus, we all know how fun it is to buy and use our planner accessories!

Finding My Way

I am currently using a bullet journal, which is my favorite method so far due to the ability for 100% customization. I have previously used planners from Plum Paper, Erin Condren, and Filofax (with Filofax, Kikki K, and Inkwell Press inserts).

My bullet journal has helped me to expand my creativity, though I am still heavily influenced by the style and layouts of Kara Benz. Not only am I more organized, but I am working on making myself better by working through my Level 10 Life goals as well as practicing gratitude.

Sharing Myself

In the past year, I have become involved in the online planner community. Seeing that there are other people who have busy schedules and have fallen short has reminded me that we are all in this together.

It is not always easy to manage our lives and the online community enables us to see the methods that other people are using.

It is exciting to see the way that people modify their planners, how people plan, and how things work for them. All of these things enable us to find the method that works best for us, resulting in a more organized life.

Long story short, I feel like planning has saved my life. At the very least, it keeps me sane.

Planner Squad Swap – Sign Up for June 2016!

Do you like to get planner related goodies in your mail box? If so, the Planner Squad Swap is for you! Each month our Squadettes like to participate in a monthly swap that brings the happiness of planner related goodies straight to your mailbox! Want to know how you can participate in the next swap? Keep reading for more information!

Planner Squad Swap June Sign Up

How does the Planner Squad Swap work?

Basically, you fill out the form at the bottom of this page to send an email to our Swap leader (the infamous Sarita!) and she will pair you with your swap buddy. Then you and your swap buddy will each shop for and/or create planner related goodies to be packaged up and shipped to your partner! Swap partners are paired together – so whoever you are sending to, will be sending something to you in return.

Who can participate in the swaps?

Our swaps are only open to our awesome Squadettes (US ONLY!!). Want to be a Squadette too? Come join us in our awesome facebook group! [Yes – we will check if you are a member or not! If you’re not, then your email will go to the virtual trash can and you will not be allowed to participate. So make sure you join our fb group!]

What is the monthly limit we should spend on our swap partner?

The limit is $15 max. That may or may not including shipping, that is up to you. You are more than welcome to spend more on your swap partner if you would like, however that does not guarantee you will get the same amount in return. You must spend a MINIMUM of $15 on your swap partner (again, that can include shipping if you would like).

When is the deadline to sign up?

The swap signup deadline for the June 2016 swap is May 31st.

Okay, I signed up! When will I be assigned a swap partner?

Emails are generally sent out with your swap partners information around the 1st of every month. Check the facebook group for updates from Sarita. If you did not get an email, check your spam folder. If you still can’t find your email, contact Sarita to let her know.

Is there a shipping deadline?

Yes. All swap packages MUST be shipped by June 15th. That gives everyone about two weeks to shop for their partner and put together a package, which is plenty of time. If for some reason you cannot get to the post office in time to ship your partners package, you MUST let Sarita and your swap partner know.

Other things you should know as a Swap Participant

As soon as you get your swap partner, reach out to them either through email or fb contact! Communication is key! If you have not heard from your partner within a few days let us know. Anyone who does not keep in contact will be removed from the swap!

If you flake out on your partner and do not send a swap gift – you will be forever banned from the Planner Squad facebook group and no longer be allowed to participate in future swaps. Also, since partners are paired in groups of two – your swapper will know who their flaky swap partner was, which could ultimately end up in a bad reputation for yourself.

If you sign up – follow through. Zero tolerance for flaky swappers!

Also, do not wait to receive a package before sending yours. That’s not how it works! If everyone waited to receive a package before sending one in return – no one would ever get any packages! If you sign up – follow through!

If you still are unsure of what’s expected of you, watch this video in the group.

**Disclaimer: Planner Squad and Facebook is not responsible for any wrong doings that may happen during a swap. When you sign up – keep in mind that you are taking a risk. We have no way to force anyone to send packages. That means, if someone doesn’t follow through on their end of the deal – you may not end up with a package that month. While that really stinks and we try to avoid that as much as possible, we’re ultimately not responsible if you do not get a gift in return. By signing up you are telling us that you understand there is a possibility that you may not receive anything in return. If you do not receive a package by the end of the month – contact Sarita immediately to report it.

Effective Goal Planning

Since we are well into the second quarter of 2016 I thought it would the perfect opportunity to talk about effective goal planning. One of the things us Planner Girl’s have in common is our obsession with goal setting.

It is part and parcel of planning. December rolls around, we prepare our planners for the new year ahead obsessing over the perfect set up and we set our goals. The old year ends, the new year starts and we are on a high and excited about all the new things to come our way.

Our goals are fresh, we are motivated and we work hard but then without even realising we start to lose motivation and lack drive, we forget our goals and why we set them.

I don’t know about you but accomplishing my goals makes me feel good about myself. Its makes me feel accomplished. I have always been a goal setter (or dreamer as some people call me) and I really believe that we need goals in our life.

Goals are really hard to accomplish if they are not set in the correct way and without even knowing so, we are usually setting ourselves up to fail.

S.M.A.R.T Goals

For those of you who have never heard of the S.M.A.R.T principle it stands for Specific, Meaningful and measurable, Achievable, Realistic and relevant and Timely. When goals are set using this principle they are more likely to be accomplished.

I always use this principle when setting my own goals. I know that when using this formula that this goal is achievable. When goals are set without using this simple format they are much harder to achieve.

Once you learn how to set goal effectively using S.M.A.R.T you will be setting yourself up for success in accomplishing all your goals assuming you are prepared to put in the hard work to execute your action plan.

FREE Goal Assessment and Planning Booklet Printable

Today I wanted to share with you a free Goal Assessment and Planning Booklet download that I have designed exclusively for the Planner Squad. It’s purpose is to help guide through effective goal planning using the SMART principle and help encourage you to review your goals regularly.

The booklet is designed in A5 format and will fit perfectly into an A5 planner. If you don’t own an A5 planner you can print his booklet style and make yourself a goal setting booklet.

A little bit about the workbook – It is 12 pages long and designed to be printed duplex. It can also be printed booklet style. Pages 6 & 7, 8 & 9, 10 & 11 have been designed to be printed as many times as you need them. The file is in PDF format and can be opened and printed using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.

Setting goals shouldn’t feel daunting. It should feel exciting and when accomplished it should feel rewarding. I hope you enjoy working through the booklet and I hope it helps you with setting  and accomplishing your goals.
