What do you think are the best planner pens? Do you have a go-to pen for planning? What pens do you use for specific planners?
Finding the perfect pen for your planner can be hit-or-miss. It is hard to know if a particular pen will write properly in your beloved planner. No one wants a pen that will bleed through or write bumpy!
When you research and select the best pens for planners, think about these considerations:
- paper quality
- paper thickness
- personality type (do you need to erase?)
We went to the best group of planner gals that we know-Planner Squad Facebook group! Our Squadettes shared their best pens for planners. Their recommendations come from the heart with their planner love and experience.
My best advice would be to see if any of your IRL (in real life) friends have any of the pens that you are interested in and give them a try!
If that doesn’t work out, my second bit of advice would be to ask online planner friends (like over in Planner Squad Facebook group!) for more detailed information.
The cost of planner pens can be anywhere from under a dollar to over a hundred dollars. Regardless of price, you want to make sure that the planner pens that you purchase are going to help you rock your planners!
These recommended planner pens are listed in no particular order. I did, however, save the best for last (and, yes, now I have that Vanessa Williams song in my head, thank you very much!)
I have this set of Staedtler Triplus Fineliners and adore them! I find that they work beautifully in all planners with little to no bleed through. I love the color selection and how smoothly they write.
PenGems come highly recommended-and are gorgeous!! I found myself drooling
while browsing their site. So many pretties to choose from and such fabulous sparkle!
Sharpies are a classic and can work well in certain planners. Some planner girls swear by them
and I can understand why-they are affordable and have a range of colors.
Glitter gels never disappoint. The flow of ink with just the right touch of sparkle
always brings a smile to my face as I use and when I look at my planner pages.
Jenn swears by Papermate Inkjoy Gel Pens. She has been known to say that if these pens were erasable that they would be perfect. She states, “They are the smoothest writing pens I have ever used-and I am a pen junkie!”
Nothing like a classic likeBIC Cristal! I have used these pens since grade school.
Great pens that you can rely on!
Pilot G-2 .38 are said to write incredibly smooth. Pens that write smooth are one of my most favoritest things in the world so I am adding these to my planner wishlist!
Now, talk about a true classic! These pens were my absolute favorite to use as a kid-and I still love to write with one. I remember feeling so cool when I could just push down that magic button and-Voilá-new color! And taking apart the pen to check out the mechanisms kept me busy in class!
Micron pens are super popular-and with good reason! These pens also write incredibly smooth
(do you see a trend here?) I love the pack shown above with its color choices!
I have heard great things about Zig Milleniums but have yet to use myself. I would so great appreciate your feedback on these pens to be added here (with credit, of course!)
Paper Mate Flair pens are another wonderful set! I love the vibrant colors.
I am not going to lie-fountain pens intimidate me! They look stunning and write in such a spectacular way. Perhaps this Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen would be a good starter?
Tombow Dual Brush pens are sweet! Look at those bright colors-and there are so many more colors to choose from! I love how they have two different size tips to work with-makes planning oh so more fun!
Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pens (which I can never say right!) are absolutely amazing! When I first got them, I was like um, okay what’s so great about these? And then, I wrote with them. Aaah! I love to use in all my planners, especially my A5 Carpe Diem.
#1 Recommended Planner Pens
Hands down, Frixion Pens from Pilot are the #1 recommended by Squadettes (and yours truly!) Frixions are my friends! I tend to write at an incredibly fast rate and with that speed comes numerous errors. Frixions to the rescue!! Smooth writers with a variety of colors, Frixion pens just can’t be beat for the price. Oh, and did I mention that they erase? (And I’m not talking like old school erasable pens. Oh no! These babies erase completely. They have also been selected as my older boys’ favorite pens. If that doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will!)
So, there you have it! Are your favorite planner pens on this list? If so, give them a shout out! If not, please share-and let us know if we can give you credit (leave your blog and/or Etsy shop name, too!)
