The 2016-2017 Erin Condren Luxe Life Planner Is Here!

Hey Squadettes! XOXO

Lindsey here, and I’ve missed y’all soooo much!

I am pleased to announce that I am back in “planning mode” (whoo hoo!) and so excited to bring you a review post of one of my favorite planning items:  the Erin Condren Life Planner!

A new year is coming and you know what that means:  new planners!

At Erin Condren they provide 18 month planners that launch in July each year, and this year they have a special little surprise for us:  The Luxe Planner!Erin Condren Luxe Life Planner

This gorgeous specimen is different than their original life planners in one important way:  the cover.

This is not an interchangeable cover; this is a hard, sturdy cover that stays attached and has the feel of leather, and is engraved in the most beautiful gold or platinum foil lettering.

If you know me, then you know I love taupe and platinum.

Keepin’ it classy! 😉

There is also the option of teal and plum.  Both absolutely gorgeous colors!!

But there are also other changes to the Life Planner this year and I’d love to go through those with you right now.

Let’s get started!

2016-2017 Erin Condren Luxe Life Planner

So if you are new to the Erin Condren family then know this:  Erin Condren Life Planners are great quality planners which wonderful features, beautiful colors, and the cutest add-ons and supplies!

In my little “surprise box” I was excited to see the Erin Condren sticker book, wet erase markers (that dry instantly!), a clip in dashboard, elastic bands, and (new this year!) see through zip-lock pouch with samples, including a new! 6 inch coil clip that sticks on to whatever you’d like!

Erin Condren Luxe Review - Pouch

Accessories for EC Luxe PlannerImmediately upon opening the planner you will see the beauty and quality of this planner, as the first page is a thick but sheer cover with a beautiful design, showing the greeting and name/owner page that lies beneath.  Last year this page was decorated with platinum foil but this year it has a beautiful and bright pattern called mid-century circles (so adorable) that we will see throughout the planner.

EC Luxe Planner Opening Image

Speaking of quality:  the paper weight has been increased for minimal bleed or show-through when using pens and markers.  (Us “glam planners” and our pens!!)

EC Luxe Planner Review - Inside

The next few pages are complete with a few inspiring quotes, a yearly calendar, and (one of my favorites) a place for focused goal setting.  Whether it’s a list of life goals, important events organized by month, or a collection of quotes, the goal setting page is the perfect way to focus on your aim!

EC Goal Planning Page

I love that throughout the years Erin Condren has redesigned her planners so that we can use them more creatively.  Many sections are left blank for our own designs and titles.  She truly wants us to feel inspired and to create!

The Monthly and Weekly Layouts

Now starts our monthly and weekly sections.  Notice that each month has one designated color.  Last year there were two.  But this gives us a bit more creativity, as we can layer which colors we like, instead of trying to match two.

Each month begins with a quote…

Monthly Quote EC Planner

and then a monthly view (with a sidebar for goals).
Erin Condren Monthly and Weekly View Collage

After each monthly calendar, comes your weekly spread.

Using a vertical planner is my choice, as each of the three boxes for the day can be labeled as to your liking.  I sometimes divide them by time of day, but then again, I’ve been known to divide them by “type” (school, home, spiritual, etc.)

One added change this year is the gorgeous watercolor print across the top of each weekly page.

Weekly View EC Planner

And when the month’s change from one to another, the watercolor blends so beautifully across the page.

EC Luxe Planner Watercolor Blending

The back of the planner comes complete with note pages:  lined, graph, and blank.  These are great areas to practice creativity:  sketch, scrapbook, or simply jot down.

Erin Condren Note Pages Collage

It also holds a calendar for the following year, which has a new and updated feature.  You can now jot down appointments and dates for the following year.

Finally, at the very back is a gorgeous folder and perpetual calendar.  The graphic is awesome, but my absolute favorite is the folder on the backside and the metallic quote.

Totally swoon-worthy!

Now let’s get down to business 😉 :

At ErinCondren.com there are many choices you can make regarding your planner.  Today I have shown you the Luxe Planner in Taupe with the silver coil, but you also have the option of choosing the following:

  • an interchangeable cover that can be personalized with names and photos vs. the Luxe cover (taupe, plum, or teal)
  • a horizontal planner vs. vertical layout…and an hourly option!!
  • a gold coil OR silver, black, rose gold, and gold (wow!)
  • and a colorful theme vs. neutral color theme (think greyscale)

Equally exciting are the many accessories at ErinCondren.com:  pencils, highlighters, markers, colored pencils, erasers, journals, sticky notes, stickers, pocket folders, elastic bands, coil clip connectors, and more!

For $10.00 off your first order, follow this link and register and a coupon code will be emailed to you!

Princess Planning! Teaching Your Daughter How To Be a Planner

Learning how to be a planner is a life skill.  I don’t care who you are or what you do there is a type of planning one must do whether they write it down or keep a mental note.

So one can say that this life skill must be passed down to our children.

But, just like other activities we must teach, we can make this an enjoyable thing for ourselves and our children.  We can use it as a time to teach and to bond.

My daughter and I love to search for stickers online, set up our “woman cave”, make tea, eat chocolate, and listen to music.  It’s our weekly ritual on Sundays and I just love emulating a love for planning to my mini-me scatterbrain, my little Pipsqueak.

She is my heart.

Where To Find Planners for Girls

When I ended up with two copies of the Erin Condren Life Planner I automatically knew I wanted to pass one down to my daughter (though we had just bought her a mini-planner on Amazon.)  I was somewhat fortunate as the company made a mistake and let me keep it.  Would she mind the missing page?  Of course not.

But not everyone has $50 to buy a nine-year-old a planner.  Lol!

So here’s a list of some planners I’ve found online that look fairly “risk free” 😉 and perfect for your little princesses.

Bloom Daily Planners on Amazon

Please note:  The links to Amazon in this post are affiliate links.  For a full disclosure please visit TheNittyGrittyMom’s disclosure policy.

The Bloom daily planners are under $15.00 and an excellent choice for girls.  They come in a variety of colors and patterns.  They have a two-page monthly view and weekly spreads.  Each month also features a page to review the month and at the end of the year they can track how they “bloomed” that year by trying new things, showing kindness, reaching goals, reading and more!

Happy Planner

The Happy Planner is a good low-budget choice for about $25.00, and even better you can sometimes find them at hobby stores for half off!

Score!

Many of you own a Happy Planner so why not be “twinsies” and grab one for your “little” too?

Printable Planners

Homemade printable planners are scattered everywhere on the internet!  These are a great option because you can buy your daughter a binder or arc planner and use customized pages for what she’d like to plan.

And often they are only a few dollars.

Follow this link to view daily planners on Etsy.

Gathering Planner Supplies

Decorating your planner isn’t necessary.  But what little girl doesn’t love a bit of glitter, stickers and washi!?

Gather your supplies as listed above and including pens and markers…planning is an art!

Now one little note about this:  because they are so young, they tend to be wasteful.

My daughter loves to use my stickers paper and washi, decorate half her weekly spread, and then put her planner away for a few weeks.  Yikes.

So here’s a few things I’ve been doing to cut back on costs:

  • Find free planner stickers (which you can do by searching the web or going to Pinterest and searching for “free planner stickers” or “free printable stickers”)
  • Print on regular printer paper and use glue stick
  • Join our Planner Group on Facebook to find out about deals, sales, clearances, etc!

Let the Planning Begin!Help Your Daughter Brainstorm her Planner

There are three steps to “Princess Planning”:

  1. Brainstorm what she needs to plan.
  2. Gather supplies and/or cut and arrange stickers.
  3. Fill in your planner.

Brainstorming

This is the foundation of planning.

Brainstorm with your daughter her monthly, weekly and daily goals or tasks.  Help her to be the one to think about them.

You can ask her questions about the different areas of her life:

  • What does she need to do for school?
  • What does she need to do for her self, her body, her health?
  • What does she need to do to help out family?
  • What does she need to do for her God?
  • What does she need to do for others/for friends/for the elderly or in need?

Brainstorm special events as well.  Parties, activities

Any special shopping?

Any letters to write and send?

You get the idea.  😉

Cutting & Filling In

I covered how I create my weekly spreads in another post, so if you’re interested, feel free to go through our decorating process.

One note though:  Keep in mind their age and capabilities.  I help my daughter with cutting stickers, laying them out, etc.

I also help her with her lettering by writing in pencil titles and tasks so she can trace them.Help Your Daughter to Cut, Lay and Fill In

A Planning Addict for Life!

One of the most important aspects of this ritual is reminding her to wake up in the morning and check her planner.

Not only is she learning the art of planning but she is well on her way to developing habits.

Aren’t we proud of our girls???!!!Princess Planning - All finished!

February Instagram Challenge for Planner Squad

Now for the “nitty gritty” of Instagram for our IG Newbies!

What is Instagram?

Instagram is an app that allows you to scroll through photos as well as post your own.  You can make your photos private or public.  You can double tap or click on hearts to show that you “like” a photo.  You can also comment on photos.

Is it free?

Yes ma’am!

How do I set it up?

Go to your app store.

Find Instagram.

Download it.

From there you need to pick a user name and edit your settings.

Click here to read the full tutorial on WikiHow – pictures included!

How do I participate in the Instagram challenge?

When you are in Instagram and have set up your account, you will want to search for PlannerSquad.  Look at your icon bar on the bottom.  Go to your search icon, press “People” (not tags) and then type in PlannerSquad.

When you find our icon, tap us and FOLLOW.

Now for the challenge!

If you view the above image it has 1 through 29 listed.  These are for the 29 days this February.

So on Day 1 the theme is: monthly spread.

This means you will upload a picture to Instagram that shows a monthly spread in your planner.  When you type in your description for the image use the hashtags “#plannersquad”.

Some of the days have a bit broader of a topic.  For instance, February 3rd says “Pink”.  Anything that is pink and has to do with planning is welcome!  It could be a pink planner, pink stickers, pink washi tape, pink pens…anything that fits the theme!

*You can also tap on those hashtags to see everyone else’s pictures.  In fact, we encourage you to!

Spreading the planner love, y’all.

So who’s with us?

Let’s make this an Instagram party, girls!

Glam Planning 101 – Making a Beautiful Weekly Spread

Glam Planning 101 - Creating A Beautiful Weekly Spread - PlannerSquad.com

It’s an art.  It’s a hobby.  It’s an addiction!  A sweet, wonderful addiction.  😉

If you are not familiar with the term, no worries – you’ve probably seen it all over or may be doing it yourself.

“Glam Planning” is simply decorating your planner.

You can get as fancy with it as you’d like, or you can keep it sweet and simple.  It’s up to you.

Though my journey into glam planning started out simple, it has become a peaceful, relaxing, almost ritualistic thing that I do.  I take about two hours each weekend, gather my supplies, MAKE SOME TEA AND LIGHT MY CANDLES, and sit in my “woman cave” and get to work.

It is the most delightful thing. 😉

So let’s get started!

I’m going to take you through my whole process and show you how you can be a glam planner too!

Glam Planning 101

The Pre-Planning Phase

Before the actual “decorating” aspect of this activity, you will want to think about what exactly you are planning.

Are you using this for school?  For an all-in-one daily planner?  A blog planner?

It’s important to know what you want to keep track of so that you know what stickers you want to buy.

  • How many checklists do you need?  Do you need a checklist for each day, or just a weekly check list?
  • Would you benefit from a habit checklist?  (There’s a sticker for that!)
  • Do you want to add meal planning stickers?
  • Do you need stickers for social media plans?
  • Do you need to track exercise?  Hydration?

There are stickers for just about everything out there.

Let me show you how I brainstormed this:

  • I decided that each day I would like a checklist sticker, with 5 or 6 lines and I would use one of my vertical boxes for that.  {There are three vertical boxes in the Erin Condren Life Planner for each day – not labeled – and a space at the bottom for notes.}
  • On that checklist would be my daily habits and whatever was of utmost importance that day.
  • In my middle box I would list other activities for the day, hydration checklist, meal planning stickers, or, sometimes, I would simply add a motivational quote.
  • In the third box I would write in what I had going on that evening.
  • At the bottom, on top of the provided lines, I would actually cover with another checklist for my bedtime routine.
  • I would use my weekly sidebar to write down my aim for the week, whether it be a beautiful quote or scripture to remember, a written checklist, or a bit of both.  Even a drawing.

Where To Find Planner Supplies

Now, just where can you find stickers?

Many places.

Michaels Arts & Crafts, Joanne’s Fabric, Hobby Lobby, and similar places obviously have aisles of stickers.

But when it comes to planner stickers with checklists my personal favorite place to purchase is Etsy.

Go to Etsy.com and search “planner stickers”.

If you have an Erin Condren Life Planner you can search “Erin Condren planner stickers” but most of the stickers made nowadays fit the Erin Condren very well.

Now please note:  some stickers are premade and will be mailed to you.  My preference is to buy printable stickers.  This means that when I purchase them, I will be sent an instant download that I can save on my computer and use again and again.

I simply put sticker paper in my printer and then print the pdf or file I was sent onto that paper, and voila! beautiful stickers.

And the really nice thing about having sticker paper is that you can print any image onto it.  So you can make your own stickers.  Gasp!

Another great place to find stickers is on Instagram.  Search hashtags such as #planneraddict #planner #plannercommunity #plannerstickers #erincondren, and at that point you can pretty much follow the trails to all sorts of planners Instagram accounts.  Most everyone that makes stickers advertises on Instagram, and you can also view planner’s spreads and ask them where they found their stickers.

Set the Mood

I’m not kidding about this.  Make this a beautiful, relaxing hour or two in your life.  Make a cup of coffee or tea, a plate of shortbread or grapes, light a few candles, and put on some soothing or inspiring music.  Retire into your woman cave.

Oh, dear me, why didn’t I mention chocolate?

Okay, go get chocolate.

Gather Your Supplies

Planning supplies - Glam Planning 101 - PlannerSquad

Now it’s time to get going!

Supplies you will need (at the very minimum):

  • Scissors
  • Stickers or sticker paper
  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Markers or highlighters
  • Washi Tape

Supplies you may want to consider:

  • Glitter (It’s fun right?)
  • Shaped hole punch (for scrapbookers)
  • Edgers (again, like in scrapbooking)
  • Border stickers
  • Cardstock

Cut and Stick

Now comes the boring part (which is why it’s so important you have coffee, snacks and music!):

CUT CUT CUT.

This may take a while depending on how many itsy-bitsy stickers you have.

Important:  Cut your stickers and lay them out how you want them FIRST before you stick them on.  Otherwise, you could end up having to peel them off.

How I Do It:  The first thing I do is stick on my washi tape.  I stick this over the “label” part of each vertical box.  The 2015-16 Erin Condren Life Planner has non-labeled “titled boxes” that you can use for titles, or, as in my case, you can cover with washi.  {Laying the washi tape on the bottom does a little something extra, I think; it’s a pretty background.}

Washi Tape first - Glam Planning 101 - PlannerSquad.com

Then you are ready to lay your stickers on top of that.

Laying out all your stickers - Glam Planning 101 - PlannerSquad.com

Now For the Fun Part

Once all your stickers are laid out like you like (this is often photographed and referenced in the description as #beforethepen) you will then want to fill it in.

I like to fill mine in with pencil and then go over it with pen or markers.  Mistakes are hard to cover and whiteout doesn’t always go with the sticker or background you may be writing on.

My personal favorite part of this “ritual” is filling in the sidebar.

Many choose to put a weekly checklist in the sidebar, but I prefer to use this space to practice my lettering (which is slowly coming along) and to write something beautiful and inspirational.

So there you have it!  A beautiful spread!

At this point you can add your bling.

  • Shiny hearts
  • Stars
  • Glitter
  • Little doodles in metallic pens
  • Random flowers

Whatever your little heart desires.

Now, take a step back, breathe it in, and admire your awesome craft.Glam Planning 101 - Planner Squad

Upload!

Wait!  Don’t go anywhere yet!  We want to see it.

Snap a picture of that baby and share it with the world!

You can upload it to Instagram and hashtag #plannersquad, and then use your Instagram link to upload it to our weekly linky party.

Also, share it on our Facebook group!
